You guys really get into your spark plug changing.
I go with the KISS method
Do one cylinder at a time
Pull the old plug out
Make sure the new plug is correct (look in the manual)
Check the gap on the new plug (also in the manual)
Apply anti-seize to the new plug threads
Apply dielectric grease to the coil boot
Install the plug hand tight then torque to spec
Install the coil
As for the OP's question, if the plug is sooty it's possibly running rich. This may help:
